ANCIENT Greek Workshop
The workshop begins with an introduction from a Royal Greek Guard! In full Royal Greek Guard armour, the workshop leader will talk about their job as a guard, how they started out as a hoplite soldier and talk about the relationship between the Athenians and the Spartans.
The day is then organised into highly-engaging, hands-on sessions. The Battle Formations and Tactics session is the highlight of the day, where the children get their very own spear and shield to use during the session. They learn about the famous formations and battle tactics that the Greeks used to conquer lands far and wide, such as the phalanx formation. Greek Board Games – in this session, the children get to play on wooden board games which have been hand made to replicate what the Greeks would have had around 2000 years ago! Greek Scribe - for this session, the children get to write in Ancient Greek on real papyrus paper, using reed pens and ink, just like the Ancient Greeks did all those years ago! City Management - for this Powerpoint-based session, the children take part in a game where they take the role of members of the city council in Athens. Using real-life scenarios of what actually happened during the Peloponnesian War, they have to make decisions on what they should do to respond to certain situations. Decisions result in either a good outcome, or a bad outcome. The scores at the end will determine whether they did well…or not! |
