stone-age Workshop
Our Stone-Age workshop is incredibly hands-on and engaging. In fact...it is our most-booked workshop!
|
Travel back thousands of years and discover what life was really like for our prehistoric ancestors. Packed with hands-on activities and immersive experiences, this exciting workshop brings the Stone Age vividly to life.
The day begins with the arrival of a Stone Age Homo sapiens. Communicating through strange sounds, gestures and animalistic behaviour, your prehistoric visitor attempts to interact with the children without using a common language. Along the way, they reveal some of the weapons and tools that helped early humans survive in a harsh and unforgiving world. Throughout the day, pupils take part in a variety of engaging sessions designed to develop their understanding of prehistoric life. Bones Investigation Become a prehistoric detective! Children examine a fascinating collection of real animal bones and work together to identify which creatures they belonged to. This hands-on investigation provides an insight into the animals hunted and encountered by Stone Age people. Cave Drawings Explore the incredible artwork left behind by our ancestors. After studying examples of genuine cave paintings, pupils create their own masterpieces using chalk and charcoal on slate boards, just as people did thousands of years ago. Artefact Investigation Children are introduced to an extensive collection of Stone Age artefacts, including authentic flint tools, animal furs and examples of prehistoric equipment. Depending on class numbers, pupils will also have the opportunity to handle many of these fascinating objects. Tool and Weapon Making Using knapped flint, sticks, twine and feathers, children become prehistoric inventors as they create their own Stone Age tools and weapons. From spears and arrows to axes, hammers and drills, imagination and problem-solving are put to the test. Hunting and Archery Could your class survive in the Stone Age? Using safe arrows, children take part in an exciting archery session, aiming at targets representing the animals hunted by prehistoric people, including wild boar, stags, pheasants, badgers and hares. This memorable activity helps pupils understand the skills required for survival thousands of years ago. Filled with artefacts, role-play and practical activities, this unforgettable workshop provides children with a truly immersive journey into prehistoric Britain and the lives of the people who shaped our earliest history. |
