Bethany (Queen Elizabeth I)

Kings & Queens Workshop

For this workshop, we can cater for up to 4 classes for the whole day (9am - 3pm)!

The workshop is delivered by one of the following workshop leaders:

David, who portrays King Henry VIII. He has featured as Henry VIII on ITV News, The Jeremy Vine Show on BBC Radio 2 and in national newspapers!

Bethany, who portrays Queen Elizabeth I. She is a trained actress so is adept at getting into character!

Sessions Include:

Meet some of the most famous monarchs in British history and discover how they shaped the nation we know today. Through exciting hands-on activities and a memorable royal encounter, children are transported through centuries of English history in this engaging and interactive workshop.

The day begins with a spectacular royal entrance from either King Henry VIII or Queen Elizabeth I. Accompanied by fanfare, His or Her Majesty enters the hall in full splendour before delivering a speech and introducing pupils to the fascinating world of kings, queens and royal power.

Throughout the day, children take part in a series of engaging sessions designed to bring the history of the English monarchy to life.

Kings and Queens of England
Can your class put the monarchy in order? Using beautifully laser-engraved wooden portraits of every King and Queen of England, children examine fascinating facts about each ruler and work together to arrange them in chronological order. This interactive challenge helps pupils develop a greater understanding of how the monarchy has evolved over the centuries.

Coin Minting
Become a royal mint master! Using clay and specialist tools, children design and create their own commemorative coin. One side features the profile of their chosen monarch, while the reverse displays a coat of arms. All materials are provided, and every child gets to take home their finished coin as a souvenir of the day.

Tudor Dancing
Step into the court of Henry VIII and learn how to dance like the Tudors. Children watch demonstrations performed by either King Henry VIII or Queen Elizabeth I and fellow Tudor dancers before joining in themselves. Accompanied by authentic music, this lively session offers a fun and memorable glimpse into life at the Tudor court.

Archery
The English longbowmen were famous throughout Europe for their skill and accuracy. Can your class live up to their ancestors? Using modern bows and safe suction arrows, children take aim at targets just as they might have done on a royal hunting expedition. This exciting activity is always one of the highlights of the day.

Filled with music, role-play and practical activities, this unforgettable workshop provides children with a unique opportunity to explore the rich history of England's kings and queens while experiencing life at the royal court.

As part of the day, David always likes to eat lunch in the hall with the children. He sits at the head of a table and has the lunch staff bring his lunch to him. A lunchtime the children will never forget!

David was truly exceptional. He was professional, engaging and full of energy and from the moment the workshop began, he created a real buzz that spread throughout the whole school.

As a team, we agreed this was the best workshop we’ve seen as teachers. The range of activities was brilliant, and catered to all learning styles. The historical content was presented in such a fun and accessible way that the children were completely absorbed.

We were incredibly impressed by David’s ability to manage the group, deliver content with confidence and make the experience memorable for everyone. It’s rare to see a workshop that appeals so strongly to both children and staff. We will definitely be booking again in the future and would highly recommend this workshop to any school looking for an engaging, high-quality learning experience.
